How to Build a NID in Under a Minute
How to Build a NID in Under a Minute
Fiber internet is fast, but Cole at ITX is faster! While it's impossible to build a Network Interface Device (NID) in under a minute, our team of fiber technicians and communications linemen, like Cole, braves the elements to connect our world. A NID is the point where the internet service provider's network connects to the customer's building. Think of it as the official handoff spot between the provider's infrastructure and the customer's network. It protects and organizes the connection between outside fiber lines and inside equipment, and provides a location for technicians to test and troubleshoot service when an interruption occurs. The NID box is mounted on the outside wall of a home or building and connected to the incoming fiber drop. It's linked to an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which converts the fiber light signal into usable internet, phone, or TV signals inside the home. These connections take time, ranging between one and two hours for an average install.
